First students to complete Prince's Trust Team Programme celebrate at Seevic College

180509-prince 's -trust -eventThe first group of students celebrated completing a 12-week programme to improve confidence, motivation and skills for work.

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme, which is run in Basildon, is delivered in partnership with Seevic College.

The celebratory event, held at the college in Runnymede Chase, Benfleet, saw the students complete a speech regarding their journey on the course as well as words from their Team Leader, The Mayor of Castle Point and the Prince’s Trust Programme Manager.

All students were presented with their official certificates as well as fun certificates such as ‘Everyone’s Best Friend’, ‘The Story Teller’ and ‘Miss Mellow’.

Family members and friends helped celebrate the students’ achievement by attending the evening.

Jordan Hayzer, 20 from Basildon, who completed his work experience at Poundland said: “I came out of my shell, became a leader figure and managed to get into full time work.”

Jordan has now secured a full-time job a KFC.

Matthew Doe, Prince’s Trust Team Leader, said: “The past 12 weeks have been a real journey for both me and the students.

“All the students have progressed in their own way and have overcome a variety of barriers which before this programme would have stopped them reaching their full potential.”

Shannon O’Sullivan, 19 from Basildon, said: “Before joining the team programme I was very quiet and didn’t talk very much. Over the past 12 weeks I have really improved my confidence.

“It has been very beneficial to me and I am glad I was able to take part in such a great team which has given me so many opportunities.

“The team programme has really meant a lot for me and I am now hoping to get into care work.”

Matthew added: “All the students were from a variety of different backgrounds but have all left with a qualification and the experience to help them find work or continue on to higher level study.

“I am incredibly proud of what all the students have achieved and cannot wait to see them all succeed in the future.”

Amanda Thurston, Head of Foundation Learning, said: “Seeing the journey of the students throughout the 12 weeks has been a pleasure.

“To see the students confident enough to complete a presentation to family and friends was a fantastic feeling.

“Everybody has developed new skills, made new friends and bettered themselves to achieve. The programme is something that we are delighted to offer and is an excellent opportunity for young people.”

The next Prince’s Trust Team Programme in Basildon starts on Tuesday 29 May.
