Students challenge the current Speaker of House of Commons
Wednesday, 04 April 2018
Government & Politics and Law students at Seevic College were giving the fantastic opportunity to have a live Questions and Answers session with Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
The speaker who skyped into the class was asked a variety of questions by the students and put on the sport about his current role as well as current affairs.
The session lasted for around an hour with the majority of students having the chance to ask him specific questions that interested them.
- What is your opinion on the topic of tuition fees?
- How has your job role changed overtime, if at all?
- How did you get into our line of work?
Current A-Level student Renata Almeida, 18, said, “This was a good experience as I have never spoken to anyone from parliament and not sure I will ever get the chance again.
“This chance really opened my eyes and changed my perception of the people that work in parliament for the better.”
Elleanor Weston, 16, who is also studying A-Levels added “Being able to get to talk to the speaker was an opportunity to get an insight into parliament first hand rather than what the media portray.
“It was interesting to find out about his current role and how it got into parliament and it has motivated me to do well in this particular studies as I now know where it can lead to.”
