Seevic student called up for England Kata Squad
Monday, 29 January 2018
A talented student who is studying BTEC Level 3 Sports & Exercise Science has been selected to be part of the Karate Routine Team representing England.
Bethany King, 16, was selected after around 50 people took part in the trials on Saturday 27 January.
The trials consisted of all the participants learning a new routine which they had to perform that day. Everyone was marked on their individual performance and was then told whether they had been successful in making the team.
This is Bethany’s second year in the England team and she is now aiming to compete in the European and World competitions.
The hopeful youngster will compete on Wednesday 21 February in the Grand Slam competition - this is where England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales all battle for the title.
Bethany said: “I was very lucky to be selected last year and am looking forward to this year.
“I am aiming to get to the Europeans but I know only a few people will get selected so it will be a very tough competition.
“All my teachers at Seevic are very supportive and always asking how I get on. They also help me when I have a lot to think about by reassuring me and helping me to perform my best in everything I do.”
