Seevic College student Josh Rasor has secured a place in the Universities of Baths Elite Rugby Squad.
Josh, 17, who plays in the prop position, went for trials in January before getting a phone call from the coaches to say they are offering him a position in the Elite Squad.
By being in the Elite Squad Josh will have the chance to play in Baths University first team in the BUCs league.
Alongside the rugby Josh will study Sport Performance where he hopes one day he will be able to work as a Sport Analysis, specialising in Rugby.
Josh said: “I was excited when I got the call, I was sceptical at first but I am glad that I have been chosen from hundreds of others that applied.
“The university has strong links to the Bath Academy so hopefully there is room for progression.”
Whilst at Seevic Josh studied BTEC Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science and plays in the Seevic Storm Rugby Academy where he has had a great year playing in the first team.
The current Westcliff player added: “Since being at Seevic the coaches have really helped me to work on my development as a player. My strength and conditioning has improved help my overall core strength which is vital as a prop.
“Harry Hudson has really helped me through the process to ensure that I get to where I want to be.
“I am nervous but excited for what will happen next.”
Harry Hudson, Forwards Coach at Seevic College, said: “Josh arrived as a hooker but has made the transition to tight head prop in his second year.
“Josh is a naturally skilful player who likes to run with the ball but he has continued to work on areas for development which has impressed all the coaches throughout the season.
“He fully deserves the opportunity at Bath University, he isn’t the finished product yet but if he continues to progress the way he has his will have a strong chance to play for the Baths First XV giving him a great platform for his rugby career.”
When speaking about his time at college Josh said: “I enjoyed the environment whilst at college and the respect you get from the tutors.
“Without the support in both my course and rugby I would not be able to pursue my dream of continuing to play rugby at a high standard.”
