The Seevic Storm Rugby Academy have had a very successful year winning a variety of regional and national titles.
The Academy have competed in rugby union and sevens competitions throughout the year winning the following titles:
- AoC Eastern Region Sevens champions
- Winner of the AoC Premier League
- Essex County Schools’ Rugby Union KO Shield champions
- AoC National Sevens gold medallists
- AoC Premier Play Off Final silver medallists
- Schools Natwest Vase quarter finalists
Head of Rugby, Danny Cleare, was very proud of the students and said: “It has been another successful season and the programme is improving each year.
“All the players have been committed throughout the year which has shown in our results. All the boys have shown strong commitment and have all encouraged each other to work harder and to a higher standard
The Women’s football also walked away with the silver medal in the tournament which is a great achievement for the girls and really demonstrates how far the sport has come at Seevic.
“It has been a pleasure to work with the team this year and see them all come so far since starting out at Seevic.
“I would like to thank all the students leaving this year and wish them the best of luck. I am looking forward to working with those staying on next year for what we hope to be another successful season.”
Ed Ashcroft, 17, who has been the first team captain throughout the year, said: “We have come a long way as a team and compared to last year it has been fantastic.
“We had 11 unbeaten games in a row in the first term which is a great achievement and the coaches have really pushed us to our boundaries. Our strength and conditioning has really improved which has helped us to be a more dynamic team and physically match some of the best teams in the country.
“With all the wins this year I have been proud to be the captain and it is something that I will always remember.
“All the boys have pulled together and I am proud of each and everyone one of them. I have made some great friends for life and we have made Seevic history together which is an amazing achievement and memory.
“Without everyones support we would not be able to be as successful as we have this year and the team will always be grateful for this.
“Danny Cleare and Harry Hudson have not only helped us to develop as players but people and they are constantly helping us to go on and better ourselves helping us to figure out our next steps as a rugby player.”
Ed will be staying on at Seevic College next year to be one of the first cohorts of our new Sport & Exercise Performance Degree in partnership with Writtle University College.
