Childcare students celebrate success
Monday, 08 May 2017
Childcare students and staff at Seevic College, Benfleet, have been celebrating after finding out they achieved a 100% pass rate for the third time in a row since it began running the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education two years ago.
The students were awarded 100% for their externally assessed assignment, meaning they are 11% above the national average for first-year students and 4% above national average for second-year students.
The 5,000-word assignment is marked externally by CACHE and is a controlled timed assessment, based on units the students study. The students have to complete it within 35 hours in exam conditions, which is spread out over four weeks for three hour periods. The students, watched over by invigilators, use laptops and save their work centrally so they are not able to access it externally.
Denise Harris, Subject Tutor for Early Years at the college said: “As a team, we are thrilled with the outstanding results achieved for the past two years; this is due to extremely hard work, enthusiasm and total commitment from both staff and students.”
The two-year course develops students’ understanding of childcare and education in the sector, covering a range of units relating to childcare such as development and health. As well as the external assessments, students also complete assignments and take part in work experience in a variety of childcare settings.
Julie Hyde, Associate Director at CACHE, said: "Success rates at the college continue to demonstrate learner achievement in application of knowledge, understanding and skills at Level 3 for the Diploma in Childcare and Education. The effort from learners is the result of effective study, hard work and passionate teaching and learning, both learners and staff should feel proud of this achievement.
“It is wonderful for CACHE to be invited to be part of this celebration and to acknowledge not just achievement for learners but also to acknowledge the difference that qualified childcare practitioners can make towards positive outcomes for children and their families in the future as learners become our colleagues in the workforce."
CACHE offer high-quality qualifications for the care and education industry, making them the UK’s leading sector specialist. As part of the delivery of the course, CACHE completes a Centre Quality Audit Report annually to ensure the college meets its standards, giving recommendations on how to improve. This year the Early Years department at the college received an outstanding report, with no recommendations.
