Seevic 'storm' into 2017

Seevic Storm is starting 2017 successfully after dominating the AoC Sport East Region qualifiers.
Seevic College has seen three teams and six individuals make the AoC Sport National Finals.
The teams are the Women’s Football Academy, Women’s Basketball and Men’s Rugby 7’s. While the individuals include five cross country runners Sam Smith, 17, Joe Logan 16, Dexter Goward, 16, Sinead Clark, 16, and Niamh Tuohey, 17 as well as Table Tennis player Harry Small, 16.
The Women’s football team were the first to qualify as they won the AoC Sport East Region tournament and secured their place in the Nationals which will be held in Nottingham next April.
The Women’s Football team did not concede a goal during the whole tournament making them unbeatable.
Whilst the Men’s Rugby 7’s and Women’s Basketball team also dominated the competition winning all their games comfortably with big margins.
Craig Davidson, Head of Seevic Storm, said: “Once again, Seevic Storm have dominated the team events and is testament to the depth and level of sports provision we have at Seevic.
“All the students work so hard to get to the finals and it is great to see it pay off for so many of them.”
“We have a great selection going to the finals with the Women’s Netball and Men’s Basketball missing out by narrow loses in the final round of the qualifiers.
“It is a fantastic environment here at Seevic for our student-athletes to flourish and progress in their sport which gives them the opportunity to compete on the highest stage of college sport.”
Michelle Young, 17, who is currently studying BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, played in the Women’s Football team in the tournament.
She said: “There was a great atmosphere on the day which really motivated us throughout the tournament.
“The whole team worked really hard and it is great that it has paid off – we all felt as a team that we deserved to win and we did.
“I cannot wait for the finals; it is going to be a fantastic opportunity and hopefully another day of success.”
Reflecting on the success of the students, Craig added: “We are heading for another fantastic year with our student-athletes excelling yet again at the highest level. I am proud of each and every one of them for their fantastic efforts.”
