Hadleigh Town Centre's big Christmas make-over
Tuesday, 22 December 2015
Fifteen Seevic College students were given the opportunity to decorate a shop window within Hadleigh Town Centre. The students, who all study BTEC Level 3 Visual Design at the College, worked in collaboration with shop owners and were provided with a professional brief to follow.
The students were given a short deadline in order to design, create and produce the display before being judged on Saturday 5 December at Hadleigh Christmas Lights switch on. All shop windows were judge by Cllr Andrew Sheldon, Mayor of Castle Point.
Cllr Sheldon’s winner for the display was Ami Nelson who created the window for “Balloons from me to you”. In joint second place was Libby Samuals, 17, and Bethany King, 18, who created the display for “The Salvation Army Charity Shop”
Inspiration form Ami’s design came from “The Nightmare before Christmas” by Tim Burton.
Ami’s slogan for the display was “Blow up the fun this Christmas” she said “it was strange working with a real client on a live brief as I have never done this before – it was quite scary.
“I am grateful for this fantastic opportunity and it has left me very excited for the future. I have gained experience and have boosted my confidence in my own work and designs.”
Justine, Owner of “Balloons from me to you”, said: “I am so pleased with the window design and I especially like the style of the trees. I am looking forward to seeing what they can produce for next year’s display.”
BTEC Level 3 Visual Design is a two year vocational course that prepares students for careers in areas such as Graphic Design, Advertising, Fashion, Publishing and Printing.
Students develop their creative and technical skills, enabling them to produce a sophisticated and varied portfolio of work.
