Tuesday, 05 May 2015
Seevic College men’s basketball team have been crowned Essex champions after defeating Shenfield High School in the final of the Essex Schools under-18 competition.
An outstanding team performance saw Seevic defeat Shenfield 75-70 to take the 2014-15 title in front of a large crowd at Eastwood Academy on Wednesday 25 March.
Shenfield came in to the final as favourites, having a strong record in the competition in recent years, and led 58-46 at the end of the third quarter.
But Seevic swung the momentum in the favour in the closing stages of the match to take the county title.
Seevic College is one of only 16 colleges in England to offer the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) basketball programme.
In addition to studying a full academic programme, students enrolled on the scheme receive 13 hours per week of on court tuition alongside access to strength and conditioning training and physiotherapy.
The College is actively looking for new male and female players to be part of the AASE programme for 2014-15 and will be holding trials during May and June.
