Health & Social Care students at Seevic College raised £176Students at Seevic College have raised £176 for Basildon Hospital after completing a sponsored walk.

Thirteen students, who all study Health and Social Care at the College, took to fancy dress for the three-mile walk in order to raise funds for the Puffin and Wagtail Children’s Ward at Basildon Hospital.

The students, aged between 16 and 19, completed the walk around Thundersley in December. Student Ruby Hare,17, also completed a sponsored silence for the day.

The walk and sponsored silence were organised solely by the students, who wished to raise money for a local good cause while completing their qualification at the College.

Chloe Fuller, 19, who lives in Pitsea and previously attended Basildon Upper Academy, helped organise the walk. She said: “I’m really proud to have helped raise so much money for the Hospital. It’s great to know that children at the hospital will benefit from our hard work – hopefully this will make their stay at the hospital a little bit more fun.”

Jerusha Murdoch-Kelly, Paediatric Matron at Basildon Hospital, said: “We would like to thank the students of Seevic for their efforts to raise funds for our children’s wards.  It is really thoughtful of them to give up their time to do this. The money raised will go towards helping to improve facilities for children, and their families, who need to spend time in hospital.”

The money raised will go to the Polly Parrot Appeal at Basildon Hospital, which is raising money to provide the best possible facilities for children, and their families, during their time in hospital.
