You’re Hired! Seevic College and local employer celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2013
Monday, 11 March 2013
A local employer dedicated to hiring and developing apprentices is helping Seevic College to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2013.
Mark Stephen Beckford & Co Accountants (MSB & Co), based in Church Road, Thundersley, employs five Seevic College apprentices out of a total staff of 18 – and recently hired another of its former apprentices as a full-time Junior Accountant.
National Apprenticeship Week runs from Monday 11 March to Friday 15 March, and MSB & Co are determined to share the benefits that apprentices can bring to a business like theirs.
Thorne Smith of MSB & Co said: “Our apprentices have made us a more pro-active accountancy firm. They’re approachable, eager and motivated – qualities that rub off on the rest of our staff and create a positive atmosphere within our offices.”
"I've really come a long way in a short space of time." Luke Goringe, 19
He adds: “Because we are expanding quite quickly, and growing fast, hiring apprentices really suits us. Some of our clients have even hired apprentices on the back of our recommendation, and have also seen the benefits they can bring to their own businesses.”
Apprentices do real jobs for real employers, earn a salary and study towards job-specific qualifications such as an NVQ.
During 19-year-old Luke Goringe’s Accounting Apprenticeship he was employed in a paid position at MSB & Co while studying two evenings per week at our Benfleet Campus.
Following successful completion of his qualification, Luke was hired as a permanent full-time Junior Accountant by the firm.
Luke said: “I’ve really come a long way in a short space of time. I’ve now got a more senior role with more responsibility - it’s nice to have the trust and belief placed in you.
He added: “A lot of my friends have taken the route of going to university, but I think in the long run my Apprenticeship will benefit me a lot more in helping me to achieve my ambition of becoming a Chartered Accountant.”
We offer Apprenticeships in nine pathways: Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, Customer Service, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Pharmacy, Activity Leadership & Exercise & Fitness.

National Apprenticeship Week, now in its sixth year, is designed to celebrate Apprenticeships and the positive impacts they have on businesses, individuals and the economy.
Seevic College is organising a range of awareness-raising activities throughout the week, with promotion of Apprenticeships taking place across South Essex and at the College’s Campuses in Benfleet and Basildon.
