Supported Internship

Supported Internship 2Designed for 16-24 year olds with an EHCP, our Supported Internship programme helps young people with a disability or learning difficulty make their first steps into employment; learning new skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Throughout the programme students benefit from the support of an experienced Job Coach, specialising in helping those with learning difficulties to undertake work placements with an employer.

The benefits

  • Study one day at College and up to four days in the workplace each week
  • Gain a qualification in Employability or Personal Social Development, and learn skills required in the workplace
  • Work towards qualifications in English, Maths and/or ICT
  • Receive guidance and support from our College Job Coach.

A route to employment

With the extra support that we provide, we aim to secure paid employment for each student at the end of their Internship.

Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Assessment

A report commissioned by the Learning Consortium was published in 2015, highlighting the work of the Supported Internship programme at Seevic College.

"The course is definitely needed for targeting young people with SEN to develop their employability skills. [...] Having a work experience placement suitable to an individual's career needs and that is willing to take on a student with SEN can be extremely hard to find but the College has managed to do this very efficiently."
