Course Description

Photo -1903The Supported Internship programme makes the first steps in to employment and learning new skills less daunting for individuals with a statement of special needs.

Individuals involved in the programme benefit from the support from an experienced job coach who specialises in helping those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in the workplace.

How Will I Be Taught and Assessed?

Studying one day at college and up to four days in the workplace per week, students will work towards qualifications in English, Maths and Employability. They will also learn the skills needed for the workplace, as well as be assessed in the workplace each week.

Students will complete a vocational profile and portfolio, with some taking examinations in English and Maths.

What Will I Learn?

You will learn key elements of working with an employer; for example interview skills, practical tasks associated to your chosen career path, develop your English and Maths.

Through regular reviews, we will together recognise your potential setting goals to success.  The course embeds the Preparation for Adulthood outcomes including accessing the wider community, independent living, friends, family and fun.

What Could I Do Next?

The course length varies between 1-2 years dependent on individual circumstances and needs. Our ultimate aim is secure paid employment at the end of the internship or progress to a higher level Apprenticeship programme. All learners are placed where there are real prospects of paid employment in the future.

General Entry Requirements

A minimum of Entry Level 1 English and Maths, as well as an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Specific Entry Requirements

This programme is designed for young people with a recognised learning difficulty and/or disability who need continued support to access employment opportunities.

If you’re aged 19 or above, you will need an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to study the programme. You will also need to be committed to work.
