Having gained the highest grade in Media A-Level at The Appleton School, Jodie came to Seevic to study Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and build on her knowledge of the industry.
"After taking Media at A-Level, I was advised to pursue with the subject at BTEC to get even more of an insight into the industry.
"The course itself has been the best thing I've ever done. All of the assignments are coursework-based and there are no exams which is great! The coursework also allows you to evaluate your work on a regular basis which is helpful.
"During my time at Seevic, I've really enjoyed the creative side; being able to get on with your work and just doing it yourself. If you have an idea, you have the freedom to to run with it. You're given a lot of responsibility with your own work, but are also assigned a Personal Tutor to help you. Meetings are always one-to-one and so you form a good relationship with them.
"When I finished my A-Levels, I didn't feel like I was ready to go into work or to university. This course has really prepared me to do that. It's also a lot easier to focus on one subject that I really wanted to do, rather than four!
"The people I've met over the past two years have been great - both Tutors and students. We're left to get on with our work and have a lot more responsibility at Seevic. I definitely prefer the environment to school.
"Like many other students, I'm not sure which area of media would be best for me so I'm hoping to get some work experience or an internship after I finish the course."
Top Tips from Jodie
- Go to an open evening - the prospectus only offers very limited information about courses, and so it's great to attend one of these events to speak with current students to find out about what's involved
- Don't feel the pressure to go to university straight after A-Levels. If you want to explore a particular area more and just aren't ready, that's fine - a BTEC is a great way of making sure that the course is right for you.
After leaving Seevic Jodie went on to do voluntary work for 6 months in the marketing department at Havens Hospice. Jodies said: "I really learnt a lot here, preparing me for my new job."
Jodie now works full time as a Marketing Assistant Choice Discount.
