SEEVICSEEVIC

Student Services

We offer a wide range of services from counselling and careers advice to sexual health services and financial support. We are always available to discuss how we can support learners to overcome difficulties which may impact on success.

The Tutorial Programme

At SEEVIC College all students attend two 45-minute tutorial sessions a week. In group tutorial sessions, the Personal Tutor supports students by tackling issues ranging from study skills (such as time management, learning styles, exam preparation) to life skills (such as personal finance, road safety for young drivers, respecting equality and diversity). Other tutorial sessions are devoted to One-to-One Reviews which give students the opportunity to discuss their progress with their Personal Tutor, identify the areas for development in their learning, and set themselves Action Points to address these.

Managing the Timetable

Whether following an A Level programme or a Vocational course at SEEVIC College, students will be allocated some non-contact time on their timetable when they are not required to be in lessons. Students are expected to use these free periods as study sessions to work on homework assignments, coursework or extension tasks. Areas in the college that are available for this include the LINC, the Library and Learning Plus Coffee. The most successful students are those who use their time at college wisely and restrict their socialising to the time-tabled breaks and lunchtimes.

Student Voice

Students express their views to influence their College experience and bring about change in the following ways:

  • complete surveys for their courses and tutorials
  • talk to managers at focus groups
  • they talk to subject staff, Heads of Faculties and their Personal Tutor at any time
  • they put ideas in comment boxes
  • talk to the Principal at a weekly surgery
  • talk to a course representative who works with teachers to make learning enjoyable
