Seevic students played against Southend United’s youth team in a friendly match at the College.
Youth team coach and former Seevic student Dave Huzzey brought along players from Southend United’s Youth Academy for a match against Seevic’s Football Academy students at the college in Runnymede Chase, Benfleet.
The students battled the elements as well as the youth side in the friendly fixture on Wednesday, May 11.
Although Seevic lost 4-0, student Alex Stephenson, who is studying BTEC Level 3 Sport, said the experience of going up against the Southend United team was invaluable.
He said: “You can see the difference in standard and it is the standard that we aspire to be.
“Just by playing against them we can learn things that can help us to improve our game – both individually and as a team.
“To say that we have played against pro players is incredible and given me that extra boost to get to that level.”
Steve Tilson, head football coach at Seevic and former Southend United manager, said playing against footballers from the League One side’s youth team was a brilliant experience for the students.
He said: “It is a good opportunity for the boys to play a professional outfit and understand the level of achievement in order to play at that level.”
