Sophie Panons, 16, has been selected to represent the East Region in trials for England under 19’s Netball squad this weekend.
Sophie, who currently studies BTEC Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science at the College, plays in a variety positions across the netball court included Centre, Wing Defence and Wing Attack.
The multi-talented player has been playing Netball for eight years and said: “I have always enjoyed competing against other people as it gives you a sense of adrenaline and thrill, especially when you win!”
When Sophie received an email from the England team she didn’t believe it, she said: “I thought they emailed the wrong person once my coach confirmed that it was me I was so excited, I was just completely shocked.”
Panons originally came to Seevic because of the sport and was recommended to come by one of her coaches. She said: “Seevic has given me that extra push to succeed. The training is intense but in a way that you can understand how it is helping you.
“The majority of our training sessions are game specific so we learn to work better as a team as well as learning a variety of new skills.”
Jadie Kent, Netball Coach at Seevic, said: “Sophie has worked really hard and deserves to be selected, she has been a real team player at Seevic and I have her seen her develop into a beautiful player to watch.”
Sophie added: “It is great to hear compliments from your coaches because you know all you hard work has paid off and you have done something good. At Seevic they are very supportive but they will only compliment you if you deserve it making it even more rewarding when you do hear something nice.”
When talking about the trials Sophie said: “I don’t really know what to expect – I know it will be tough but I don’t know whether to be really excited or nervous.”
