Seevic College Enterprise students win Judge’s Award in a Young Enterprise Trade Fair competition. The event was held in Basildon’s Eastgate shopping centre on Thursday 17 March.
Students who are currently studying BTEC Level 3 have the opportunity to start their own business with the Young Enterprise scheme and this year 12 students entered the Basildon event.
Back In Time, who sell scented candles, personalised photo frames and cork decorations, won the award for the most innovative and creative design. The team consists of six members; Holly Hooper (18), Paige Gill (18), Johnny Mullane (19), Talia Lovett (20), Remie Colaine (17) and Ellie Evans (17).
Holly Hooper, who was in charge of the teams marketing and sales said: “Winning was an amazing feeling, it proved that our hard work has paid off, it was difficult in the beginning but now we are a more efficient team. It was very rewarding and has bought us closer together to push more.”
Hooper added: “The overall experience of Young Enterprise has been stressful yet exciting, I did not realise how much work went into a business but I have learnt a variety of skills that I will be able to take with me into any job role.”
The second company at the trade fair was Ignite; in competition with Back In Time they also sell scented candles. The team consisted of Lauren Kefford (18), Oliver Parsons (17), Husain Munir (19), Cullen Lambird-Boots (18), Paris Wilson (17) and Jack Pownall (18).
Lauren Kefford, Manager of the team, said: “It has been very challenging working with others but it has been a huge learning curve and a great experience.”
Tutor of BTEC Business, John Hallam, said: “All the students have worked really hard to ensure their businesses are successful and Back In Time winning the award just tops it off!”
The Young Enterprise scheme is available to all Level 3 BTEC Business students and is a great opportunity for the students to learn a variety of employability skills as well as having the opportunity to continue their business when they leave college.
