Seevic Arts Show Success

Creative Arts Final ShowSeevic College would like to thank everyone that turned out for the Creative Arts Final Show of 2014, between Wednesday 11 and Monday 16 July 2014, and contributed to the event’s success.

Around 400 Creative Arts students submitted pieces to the exhibition, turning most of the College’s West Building into a gigantic art gallery for the duration of the show, and over 300 people came out on the Opening Night.

Work on display included painting, photography, sculpture and sizeable mixed-media installations.

James Williams, a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art student, said: “The Show went really well – I got a lot of great feedback about my work on the opening night, though there were a few people who were afraid to come inside...”

James’ installation consisted of a large white marquee-style tent, ominously billowing smoke into the rest of the gallery and wrapped in yellow crime-scene tape.

Within the tent’s darkened interior, braver viewers find a part-dissected alien being – carefully sculpted and painstakingly painted – surrounded by all the accoutrements associated with a classic sci-fi autopsy; test-tubes, surgical equipment, old-fashioned monitor screen and lamp.

Viewers then discover the source of the mysterious smoke, as it erupts from the creature’s open chest. James explained: “The smoke is completely non-toxic and safe to breath. The idea is that it spreads through the air, creating an interesting atmospheric effect as it interacts with the light-sources in the tent.”

Fashion at the Final ShowIn addition to the Fine Art exhibits, visitors were also able to view examples of Design from the various disciplines studied at Seevic. From Theatrical Media & Make-up to Textiles and Set Design; every aspect of Creative Arts was covered.

As well as works by A-Level and BTEC students, pieces were also on show from the College’s Higher Education contingent – Art Foundation Diploma and HND Art & Design students – representing the full gamut of artistic skills developed at Seevic College.

Anyone interested in studying Creative Arts at Seevic can find out more at our next Open Evening, on Thursday 3 July – 5.30pm to 8pm.
