A Seevic College student is taking the fast-lane to success after securing a place on a prestigious Apprenticeship programme with Rolls-Royce.
Zoe Burton, 19, who studies A-Levels at the College, headed off national competition to land one of just two places on the Specialist Science Apprenticeship at the firm’s headquarters in Derby.
Zoe will be working in some of the world’s premier laboratories as she receives training from world-class experts, helping to develop new chemical processes and inspecting parts using techniques such as x-ray and ultrasound.
Her Apprenticeship, which starts in September 2014, lasts for a total of three-and-half years during which time she will study towards a BSc (Hons) Degree and receive an annual salary.
Zoe said: “The interview process for the Apprenticeship was really intense, but it was a great experience. I’ve always enjoyed Maths, Chemistry and problem solving. Eventually I’d like to work as a Materials or Chemical Engineer but for now I’m just focusing on getting the grades I need in my A-Levels.”
Zoe, who previously attended Grays Convent High School, studies A-Levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. She is part of the Student Association’s Executive Committee at the College, as Faculty Representative for Maths, Science and Technology
Zoe’s six-stage interview at Rolls-Royce headquarters in Derby involved psychometric and manual dexterity tests plus group, motivational, technical and competency interviews.
Rolls-Royce employs over 45,000 people in more than 50 countries around the world, providing integrated power solutions for customers in civil and defence aerospace, marine and energy industries.
Seevic College’s next Open Evening takes place on Tuesday 4 February, 5.30 – 8pm. Visitors can pre-book fast-track entry online.
