The apprentices, who all study Level 3 Business Administration at the College, raised £937.87 for Havens Hospices.

Family-friendly activities which drew a large audience outside ASDA between 11am and 3pm included face painting, a tombola and a well-received live performance from the Leigh Beck Junior School choir.

Business Administration apprentice Adam Brett, 21, project managed his fellow apprentices on the day and during organisation of the event - which formed a unit of their study.

Adam said: “We are so pleased by the level of support we have received from shoppers in Basildon today. The amount we have raised has gone beyond all our expectations. We would like to thank the Eastgate Centre and everyone who has contributed towards making our event such a big success.”

The apprentices were supported in organising the event by Denise Turner from the College’s Business Solutions team.

After brainstorming ideas for a local charity to support, the apprentices approached Havens Hospices and even visited a local hospice to experience first-hand the respite care provided for life-limited children and their families throughout the journey of their illness.

Havens Hospices Community Fundraising Manager Peter Hall said: “It’s been fantastic to meet such a passionate group of young people. I’d like to thank Denise and all the apprentices for giving up their time and doing such a brilliant and professional job in organising the event.”

The 11 apprentices who organised the event were Adam Brett, Michele Cowley, Abby Brealey, Rhiannon Payne, Stevie Key, Vinny Lankin, Claire McIntyre, Holly Chatfield, Paige Sharp, Louise Coe and Aimee Hopgood.

Seevic College offers Apprenticeships across 10 different areas, including Level 2 and Level 3 Business Administration.
