James Drewe, 22, from Canvey Island, secured an Accounts Assistant position at a City of London corporate firm within days of completing his degree.
James achieved a first class Honours degree in Business Management from Anglia Ruskin University, after completing the first two years of his degree at Seevic College.
“Achieving a first class degree is my biggest achievement in life to date. It has opened up new opportunities for me, in terms of access to better jobs and broadening my perspective on life.

“I chose to study the first part of my degree at Seevic because I knew the Tutors already. It also saved me money compared to more expensive university tuition fees and the potential cost of living away from home. It was a massive step up, but my Tutors really helped and pushed me. Every week there was a deadline to meet and I always received timely and constructive feedback.
“Progressing in to the final year of my degree at Anglia wasn’t a big jump because I’d been so well prepared at Seevic. I knew how to manage my time effectively and how to adapt to different teaching styles. Without the help of Seevic I wouldn’t have got a first class degree. It goes to show that hard work and commitment definitely pay off.
"I’m really enjoying my current role – in the future I plan to pursue CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualifications and secure a position as an Accounts Manager.”
Top tips from James:
- Manage your time effectively! I worked hard from Monday to Thursday and then had the weekend for socialising.
- Don’t be scared to ask for feedback – it’s the only way to improve!
- Constantly read around your subject – there’s an endless world of information out there open to everyone.
