Leisure Management Duty Manager - Advanced Apprenticeship
Advanced Apprentices are employed and will normally be aiming for a technical, supervisory or junior management role.
The training, which comprises of the same mix of off-the-job learning and on-the-job practical work, leads to an NVQ at level 3 (equivalent to two A Levels), a Technical Certificate and the relevant Key Skills.
An Advanced Apprenticeship takes between 12 and 36 months, depending on the occupational area.
As a Duty Manager within a leisure organisation, you will have a number of responsibilities. The first of these is the health and safety of your staff and visitors to your facility.
You may be required to work in the gym environment or on poolside, depending on your technical qualifications. You are responsible for the work of your team; this may be across different areas of work e.g. you may be responsible for reception staff, pool staff and gym staff.
The Duty Manager may be asked to deal with problems, so good customer skills are vital. Often the role will require the holder to open up, or close down the facility; this means that the Duty Manager will be responsible for the appropriate use of keys and alarm systems. The Duty Manager may be required to oversee the handling of money. The Gym Manager will need to be confident at report writing, administration, problem solving and the management of staff.
Advanced Apprenticeship Entry Requirements
Foundation (Level 2) Apprenticeship and GCSE – Maths and English C or above is preferred. Applicants for an Advanced apprenticeship must be currently employed and have experience and proven competency within in the industry.
