Gym Supervisor - Advanced Apprenticeship

Advanced Apprentices are employed and will normally be aiming for a technical, supervisory or junior management role. The training, which comprises of the same mix of off-the-job learning and on-the-job practical work, leads to an NVQ at level 3 (equivalent to two A Levels), a Technical Certificate and the relevant Key Skills.

An Advanced Apprenticeship takes between 12 and 36 months, depending on the occupational area.

The role of Gym Supervisor carries a great deal of responsibility. As well as doing all the jobs that a Gym Instructor does, the Gym Supervisor will be responsible for the work of a team of Gym Instructors. The Supervisor will also have responsibility for the health and safety of everyone in the gym and the cleanliness of the gym area. Often the role will require the holder to open up, or close down the gym; this means that the Supervisor will be responsible for the appropriate use of keys and alarm systems.

The Supervisor may be required to oversee the handling of money. The Gym Supervisor may be required to deal with problems, so good problem solving and customer skills are vital. The Supervisor will also need to be confident at report writing and administration.

Advanced Apprenticeship Entry Requirements

Foundation (Level 2) Apprenticeship and GCSE – Maths and English C or above is preferred. Applicants for an Advanced apprenticeship must be currently employed and have experience and proven competency within in the industry.
