What will I do?
The course comprises of 50% theory covering exercise and fitness knowledge, theory of bones and joints, muscles and
muscle actions, lungs and circulation, energy systems, and fitness principles. The remaining 50% of the course focuses on the practical application of this theory to enable candidates to feel confident in all areas of cardiovascular, fixed machine, and free weight training within a gymnasium environment. A mixture of lectures and practical fitness suite sessions based in the College’s well-equipped Sports Department.
Entry requirements
Applicants need to be interested in fitness and want to progress within the industry. Need to be interested in their own
training and health development within a gymnasium environment. Either progression from the YMCA Level 1 Certificate in Assistant Fitness Instructing or have some underpinning knowledge either from other courses or self-taught.

Progression
Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be awarded the Certificate in Fitness Instructing, which is the industry standard qualification for those pursuing a career in the health and fitness industry. It will also enable you to gain membership onto the Register of Exercise Professionals at entry Level 2.
Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ) offer a wide range of Level 3 qualifications to which the student may progress. Successful completion will enable employment within a gymnasium environment for both leisure centres and private health clubs.
