What level is right for me?
Each student chooses one of these qualifications as his/her main study programme. Each programme also includes Functional Skills.
AS/A2 Levels & Advanced Diplomas
Students will need the following:
- An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but MUST include GCSE Maths and English Language .
- At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
- Additional specific requirements can be found at the end of each course entry.
BTEC National Awards
- These qualifications will normally be taken as part of an A Level programme. Students may only take one BTEC National Award in place of one A Level.
- Additional specific requirements can be found at the end of each course entry.
BTEC National Certificates/Diplomas
- Requires at least four GCSEs at grade C or above or a BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.
- Additional specific requirements can be found at the end of each course entry.
AAT Intermediate (Association of Accounting Technicians)
- Requires an AAT Foundation or four GCSEs at grade B or above including GCSE English Language and Maths.
Administration and Secretarial Studies
- Requires at least four GCSEs at grade C or above, which should include English Language or a related vocational qualification at Merit level plus GCSE English Language at grade C or above.
- If choosing an AS Level subject in addition to one of the Administration and Secretarial courses, students must meet the A Level general entry requirements (as above).
Advanced Apprenticeships
- Foundation (Level 2) Apprenticeship and GCSE – Maths and English C or above is preferred. Applicants for an Advanced Apprenticeship must be currently employed and have experience and proven competency within the industry.

- Requires at least two GCSEs at grade D or above or a BTEC Introductory Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.

- Requires at least four GCSEs at grade D or above including GCSE English Language and Maths.
GCSEs
(Including Vocational Paralegal Studies)
- It is expected that students pursuing a programme of GCSE courses will have already achieved a grade C in at least three GCSE subjects and an average GCSE points score of 3.5
- Students should choose five courses to study.
- Additional specific requirements can be found at the end of each course entry.
Apprenticeships
- Sport & Leisure - A minimum of two grade D’s at GCSE are preferred but not essential. Entry on to the course is subject to an interview and selection day.
- Business & Finance (AAT) - A minimum of two grade C’s at GCSE in Maths and English is preferred but not essential.
Foundation Learning Tier
Subjects available are:
- Business
- Health & Social Care
- IT
Students require the ability to contribute to and benefit from the programme of study.
The Foundation Learning Tier pathways provide opportunities for progression to:
- A first, full Level 2 qualification (e.g. BTEC First Diploma)
- Skilled work or an Apprenticeship
- Independent living or supported employment
- A Foundation (Level 1) or Higher (Level 2) Diploma or GCSEs.
Students choose a programme designed to allow them to progress along one of the pathways, each programme includes Functional Skills
Essential Skills
Our Essential Skills programme aims to enable students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to progress through a series of one-year modules into opportunities in Further Education, training and employment.
Students will usually stay with the College for three years.
Students will be individually assessed to assure that they have the potential to meet the demands of the course both academically and socially.
