Answers for Students

Where do SEEVIC College students come from?

Students join us from more than 100 schools across South Essex.

Can I study a subject if I haven’t taken it at GCSE?

Yes, although some subjects require experience and a certain level of achievement at GCSE level. Please see the individual course entries for more details.

I’m in Year 12. Can I complete my A Levels at SEEVIC College?

Please contact our Admissions Office on 01268 756 111 who will be able to discuss your situation.

Can I choose any combination of subjects?

Yes – you can choose any combination of A Level subjects, and most students are able to study the courses they want. We will help you to choose the right programme for you.

I can’t decide what courses to write on my application form

Don’t worry – lots of people find this decision difficult. What you write on your form does not have to be your final choice. You can change your options when you come for interview, and you might change your mind after you’ve received your GCSE results. You will have a chance to discuss any changes with us before you start your course.

Can I get more detailed information about the courses available?

We have Course Guides which include more information on each course. You can dowload these from the link at the bottom of each individual course. To request paper copies email info@seevic-college.ac.uk or call 01268 756 111.

What happens if I’m offered a place at College but don’t get the grades I need?

If your GCSE results aren’t as good as you hoped, stay calm. We will be available to discuss all your options with you when you receive your GCSE results.

What is the Virtual Learning Environment?

Our state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) contains course material, revision guides, assignments and tests to help you with your courses. It is accessible both inside and outside College if you have Internet access.

Can I get careers advice at College?

Yes - our Careers Centre is open every day so you can get help and advice whenever you need it.

What are extra-curricular activities?

Extra-curricular activities are things to do outside of lessons, such as playing sport or joining societies. See the College Life section for examples of what is on offer at Seevic College.

Answers for Parents

What support is available to students?

Each student has a personal tutor. Tutors and students meet regularly through group tutorials and one-to-one review sessions. Tutors keep students informed of what is happening in College and support them through their studies.

For study support, subject areas often run workshops and revision sessions outside of lessons. In addition, we have a College
Counsellor and a Health and Welfare Officer.

For students who have a disability or difficulty with their learning, our Learning Plus team is always available to help.

What contact will I have with the College?

Although we treat all our students as adults, we still recognise the importance of keeping in contact with parents/carers. You can discuss your son or daughter’s progress at any time by contacting us.

We will contact you if your son/daughter does not keep regular attendance at lessons. And we will let you know if, for example, your son or daughter asks to go home early because they feel ill.

We will invite you to attend Parent/Carer Evenings, to discuss your son or daughter’s progress with their tutors. We will also send you a half-termly progress report.

I’m worried about what my son/daughter will do when they’re not in lessons

Students have free periods, which they are expected to use wisely. They can join various clubs and societies, play sport, or use this time for coursework, assignments or revision. Seevic College is not a city centre college. As everything students need is on campus, most choose to stay on site during their free time. This contributes to the College ‘buzz’, and also makes it much easier to make new friends.
