Answers for Parents

For more information, contact the Finance Office on 01268 756 111. For other details about money matters, including financial assistance available, visit the Financial Help page.

- What support is available to students?
-
Each student has a Personal Tutor. They will meet regularly through group tutorials and one-to-one review sessions. They will keep students informed of what is happening in College and support them through their studies.
For study support, subject areas often run workshops and revision sessions outside of lessons. In addition, there is a College Counsellor and a Health and Welfare Officer.
For students who have a disability or difficulty with their learning, the Learning Plus team are always available to help. For more details visit the Support for Learning page.
- What contact will I have with the College?
-
Although we treat all our students as adults, we still recognise the importance of keeping in contact with parents/carers. You can discuss your son/daughter’s progress at any time by contacting the College. You will be notified if your son/daughter does not keep regular attendance at lessons and will be contacted if they, for example, ask to go home early because they feel ill. You are invited to attend Parent Evenings at which you can talk to your son or daughter’s Tutors about their progress. You will also receive a half-termly progress report.
- I’m worried about what my son/daughter will do when they’re not in lessons
-
Students have free periods when they are expected to use their time wisely. There are various clubs and societies that students can join, plus the opportunity to play sport. Many students use this time to complete their coursework, assignments, homework or revise. We are not a city centre College, and as everything students need is on campus, most of them choose to stay on site during their free time. This contributes to the College’s ‘buzz’. It also makes it much easier to make new friends.
