French

AS/A2 Level - Two-year course

This course is designed for those who wish to improve their command of French and gain insight into the country and its people. All the skills used at GCSE – listening, speaking, reading and writing – are continued, enhancing students’ understanding and response to authentic language materials.

Students will gain an increased awareness of the importance of accuracy for their examinations. The AS and A2 Levels consist of two examinations, an oral and a mixed-skill paper, both examined externally.

Weekly sessions include a 45-minute conversation session with a French Assistant and listening practice in our state-of-the-art language laboratory. Students study a wide variety of topics relevant to France and French-speaking countries.

In year one (AS) study units consist of an initial transition module and four further topic areas: Media; Popular Culture; Healthy Living and Family. In year two (A2), the units include: Environment; Multicultural Society; Social Issues; and a cultural topic, such as a region of the country.
