Youth Work Apprenticeships (Levels 2 & 3)

Who is the course for?

The apprenticeship in youth work will be right for if you enjoy helping young people fulfil their potential and being involved in a wide range of activities. You may be working with and supporting social workers, probation officers, teachers and youth centre managers.

What qualities do I need?

You will need to be organised and have good listening skills as often young people will need someone to talk to about issues that may be concerning them.

What would I do?

You may be supporting with organising outdoor activities and events, offering support in difficult situations, being involved in specialist projects such as anti bullying campaigns and arranging sports and drama activities.

There is also an administrative side to youth work, so you may be keeping records of activities, sending out letters, putting together promotional materials and applying for grants and support.

On completion of your apprenticeship you will be a youth support worker. You can then progress to the advanced apprenticeship followed by a degree which will lead to you becoming a qualified youth worker.

What qualifications do I get with an apprenticeship?

You will achieve an NVQ 2 in Youth Work, Certificate in Supporting Youth Work Level 2, Functional Skills at Level 1 in Maths and English.

What qualifications do I get with an advanced apprenticeship?

You will achieve an NVQ 3 in Youth Work, Certificate in Supporting Youth Work Level 3, Functional Skills at Level 2 in Maths and English.

When does the apprenticeship start and how long is it for?

The apprenticeship (level 2)

The advanced apprenticeship (level 3)

Employment

You may already be employed and if not, the College will support you with finding suitable employment. You will need to be working in paid employment for a minimum of 16 hours per week.

Once you have achieved your apprenticeship qualification you can progress to an advanced apprenticeship. Starting salaries once qualified range from £10,500 to £15,000. More senior posts may attract salaries of up to £20,000.
