Who is the course for?
An apprenticeship in Spectator Safety will be right for you if you enjoy the buzz and excitement of sporting events, festivals and outdoor public events and would like to be able to work at these events. You are likely to be working as an event steward or marshall.
What qualities do I need?
You will need to have good customer service skills and be mature and responsible as event stewards and marshalls have an important role in keeping visitors and spectators at events safe. The general public are unpredictable so you will need to be confident, think on your feet and remain calm in challenging situations.
What would I do?
You will guide people in and out of events, ensure health and safety regulations are being followed, deal with incidents and queries as well as contribute to the work of the team.
What qualifications do I get with an apprenticeship?
NVQ in Spectator Safety, Certificate in Spectator Safety and Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English.
When does the apprenticeship start and how long is it for?
At various points throughout the year. Please speak to the employer engagement team for more information.
It usually takes up to 12 months to complete.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 2 grade Ds at GCSE of which one must be English, are preferred but not essential. Entry onto the course is subject to an interview and selection day.
Assessment
You will need to attend College for one day per week. Functional skills are assessed by an on line examination. The NVQ is assessed in the workplace through observation and Q&A. The technical certificate is assessed through both your workplace and assignment/portfolio work.
Employment
You may already be employed and if not, the College will support you with finding suitable employment. You will need to be working in paid or voluntary employment for a minimum of 16 hours per week.
