Marketing & Communications Apprenticeships (Levels 2 & 3)

Who is the course for?

This apprenticeship course is aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a career within marketing. Marketing and communication is a key function for all organisations and supports the growth of a business. It often involves finding out what your current customers think of your products and services (market research) and promoting your business to new customers (advertising and public relations).

What qualities do I need?

You will need to be creative and organised with excellent customer service and communication skills. You are likely to be working within a team and work often involves attending promotional activities and events. You should have a good awareness of business needs.

What would I do?

You are likely to be involved with market research such as surveys and interviews, assisting with developing communication activities such as the website, leaflets and press releases, managing budgets and sending out letters and e-mails to your current and future customers.

What qualifications do I get with an apprenticeship?

You will achieve an NVQ 2 in Marketing, ISMM Level 2 Certificate in Sales and Marketing and Functional Skills at Level 1 in Maths, English and IT.

What qualifications do I get with an advanced apprenticeship?

You will achieve an NVQ 3 in Marketing, ISMM Certificate in Advanced Sales and Marketing and Functional Skills at Level 2 in Maths, English and IT.

When does the apprenticeship start and how long is it for?

The apprenticeship (level 2)
September and February.
It usually takes up to 12 months to complete.

The advanced apprenticeship (level 3)
At points throughout the year. Please contact the employer engagement team for more information.

Entry requirements

The apprenticeship
A minimum of 2 grade Ds at GCSE of which one must be English, are preferred but not essential. Entry onto the course is subject to an interview and selection day.

The advanced apprenticeship
You will need to demonstrate at least one of the following:

  • A suitable level of competence within a relevant job
  • Have successfully completed the apprenticeship
  • Have a minimum of 5 G.C.S.E’s at grade C

Assessment

You will need to attend College for one day per week. Functional skills are assessed by an on line examination. The NVQ is assessed in the workplace through observation and Q&A. The technical certificate is assessed through both your workplace and assignment/portfolio work.

Employment

You may already be employed and if not, the College will support you with finding suitable employment. You will need to be working in paid employment for a minimum of 16 hours per week. Apprentices are paid a minimum of £95 per week by the employer (pro rata for part time work).

Once you have achieved your apprenticeship qualification you can progress to an advanced apprenticeship. You may decide to progress into a relevant Foundation Degree. Starting salaries once qualified range from £14,000 to £20,000. More senior posts may attract salaries of up to £30,000.
