Customer Service Apprenticeships (Levels 2 & 3)

Who is the course for?
There are hundreds of jobs that require good customer service but it is likely that you will be working within retail, call centres, hospitality or sport and leisure. Customer service skills are transferable into almost any industry and job.
This career will suit you if you enjoy working with people and providing good levels of service at all times. Customer service is becoming more and more important as businesses become more competitive and customers expectations increase. It is often down to the customer service that someone receives that means they return to your business again.
What qualities do I need?
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written will be essential as well as a positive outlook. Good listening skills and the desire to help people will also be important.
What would I do?
Jobs that require customer service skills are wide and varied but may include meeting and greeting customers, answering the phone, responding to telephone calls and queries and giving general advice and guidance.
What qualifications do I get with an apprenticeship?
You will achieve an NVQ 2 in Customer Service, Certificate in Customer Service Level 2, Functional Skills at Level 1 in English, Maths and IT.
What qualifications do I get with an advanced apprenticeship?
You will achieve an NVQ 3 in Customer Service, Certificate in Customer Service Level 3, Functional Skills at Level 2 in English, Maths and IT.
When does the apprenticeship start and how long is it for?
The apprenticeship (level 2)
September and February.
It usually takes up to 12 months to complete.
The advanced apprenticeship (level 3)
At points throughout the year. Please contact the employer engagement team for more information.
Entry requirements
The apprenticeship
A minimum of 2 grade Ds at GCSE of which one must be English, are preferred but not essential. Entry onto the course is subject to an interview and selection day.
The advanced apprenticeship
You will need to demonstrate at least one of the following:
- A suitable level of competence within a relevant job
- Have successfully completed the apprenticeship
- Have a minimum of 5 G.C.S.E’s at grade C
Assessment
You will need to attend College for one day per week. Functional skills are assessed by an on line examination. The NVQ is assessed in the workplace through observation and Q&A. The technical certificate is assessed through both your workplace and assignment/portfolio work.
Employment
You may already be employed and if not, the College will support you with finding suitable employment. You will need to be working in paid employment for a minimum of 16 hours per week. Apprentices are paid a minimum of £95 per week by the employer (pro rata for part time work).
Once you have achieved your apprenticeship qualification you can progress to an advanced apprenticeship. Starting salaries once qualified range from £10,500 to £15,000. More senior posts may attract salaries of up to £20,000.
