This is the voice of SEEVIC College students.
The main role of this lively group is to represent the needs and concerns of all our students. They meet once a month to discuss ideas, suggestions and complaints. Recommendations are then made to the Senior Management of the College. The Council also has its own fund which it uses to support groups and individual students in extra-curricular activities.
One of the main functions of the Council is to organise and encourage activities and events for students. The last week of every Autumn term we raise money for local and national charities. Throughout the years we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for a variety of charities such as Essex Air Ambulance, Oxfam, Bowel Cancer UK, The British Heart Foundation and also small independent/individual charities.
Fund-raising events include the College versions of ‘Britain’s got Talent’; ‘Man Oh Man!’; Karaoke; Fancy Dress and a variety of performances from our Drama and Dance students.
This meets regularly at lunchtime to select topics and prepare teams for a debate twice a term. It offers students on different courses the opportunity to meet and debate about all kinds of subjects, serious and not so serious!
The topics for debate are chosen by students and have included:
- Every state has a right to nuclear weapons?
- Daytime TV shows provide a valuable service to society?
In a relaxed and informal atmosphere, teams of two debate against each other in front of an audience, who also participate enthusiastically!
This group meets at least one evening a week during term time in the College’s purpose-built theatre. Members are introduced to theatrical techniques and practices through both scripted work and improvisation.
The course helps build acting skills and personal confidence and a deeper understanding of the theatre through active participation. There is no entrance audition and past experience is not necessary; just genuine interest and commitment to participate and contribute.
Participants will be given the opportunity to take LAMDA exams in order to gain recognition of their performance skills.
Gifted & Talented
As part of our commitment to personalised learning at SEEVIC College, we aim to provide a learning experience tailored to the needs and abilities of our students and recognise that some students need to be stretched and challenged to build on their individual talents and strengths.
