'Thumbs up' for new Seevic development
Students enjoyed their first glimpse of Seevic College’s new site, Church Walk House, at New Campus Basildon during a special tour last Friday. They visited the site alongside Principal and Chief Executive of Seevic College, Sarah Wright, and other stakeholders.
Building work is well underway at the site, situated in Basildon town centre. The building’s interior is being renovated to reflect the unique style of Seevic’s other site near Basildon train station, The Icon. The Icon is known for its innovative and vibrant interiors and state-of-the-art facilities that provide students with a high quality learning experience.
Seevic is transforming Church Walk House into a spacious and comfortable learning environment for the young people of Basildon and surrounding areas. New Campus Basildon aims to find something to cater for many learners, offering courses and apprenticeships in Business, Finance & Tourism, Health & Childcare, IT and Media. The site will feature innovative vocational learning facilities such as a Sports Laboratory and a specialist Gaming and Media Suite with high-tech computer equipment.
Rob Wye, Chief Executive of Learning and Skills Improvement Service, a national body that aims to accelerate the drive for excellence in the learning and skills sector, visited the site on Friday and was impressed with the progression. He said: “I’ve seen some great work at the The Icon, and this second site in Basildon will give Seevic the opportunity to increase the number of young people that they can cater for, in a greater range of subjects. This will help their students achieve fulfilling employment opportunities.”
Pauline Holroyd, Seevic College Governor, and Vice Chair of Corporation, who also toured the site, said, “I am looking forward to seeing the good results that this second site will bring. We will be helping students to continue their education and employment opportunities. The Board of Governors is delighted to support and encourage the development at New Campus Basildon.”
Once students are settled in to their new learning environment at Church Walk House, the college will continue the development of the site and look forward to providing further specialist vocational areas such as a Radio Production Studio.
Sarah Wright, Seevic College Principal, said, “We are always looking at ways to improve learners’ experiences and develop their opportunities to succeed. We have a forward-thinking team in place behind the renovation and we are excited about the forthcoming opening in February.”
Seevic College is set to open the doors of Church Walk House to its new learners on Monday 28 February.
