A Bank Holiday weekend, a Royal Wedding and the launch of Seevic College’s new site in Basildon – there was certainly plenty to celebrate last weekend!

Seevic College officially opened its latest innovative development, Church Walk House, on Thursday 28 April. The event was complete with patriotic bunting and a balloon launch to coincide with the royal celebrations.

Seevic celebrated the launch event with 45 guests at the new College campus. The College unveiled a special student video looking at students’ experiences at New Campus Basildon. Guests were then invited to join in with a balloon launch outside the front of the building to mark the grand opening.

Seevic welcomed guests such as Councillor Mo Larkin, Mayor of Basildon, who delivered a speech to all the guests. She said, “This will be a great asset to Basildon and I am looking forward to seeing what the College can offer the young people and employers in the local community.”

Professor Mike Thorne, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University, visited the new development and delivered the keynote speech at the event.

Professor Thorne, who works closely with Seevic to deliver its Higher Education offer, said, “I am proud to be a part of the opening as one of Seevic College’s key partners. I am delighted to be asked to open Church Walk House, an event which represents a real step forward to meeting the academic and skills needs of people in Basildon.”

The event opened with an introductory speech from Principal and Chief Executive of Seevic College, Sarah Wright, and Vice Principal of Skills and Employment, Katy Quinn.

The Principal was delighted with the launch event, and is pleased to welcome prospective students and visitors to the site, stating that, “After years of planning and months of development, I am truly delighted to have officially opened our exciting second site in Basildon, and look forward to growing our provision in the local area. This development has been a real team effort and has included input from both staff and students. I’m sure our guests and future students will agree that the hard work has been well worth it.”

New Campus Basildon student, Joe Mulreany, spoke on behalf of the students, about his experience of studying at New Campus Basildon.

Joe, 17, from Basildon, is currently studying Level 3 Sport at NCB. He said, “I could not have made a better course choice – I have made some great friends and have learnt a lot. I have had a look at the new sports lab and I must say that it looks impeccable. I can’t wait to start using the testing equipment and start gathering results to help my course. I would recommend New Campus Basildon to anyone who wants to have a fun and memorable college experience. NCB has given me a huge boost with my future career opportunities and has bettered me as a young adult.”

Building work began at Church Walk House in November. Having built on the success of Seevic’s first site at New Campus Basildon, The Icon, Seevic looked to this second site in order to expand the provision of courses on offer in the Basildon area.

New Campus Basildon was launched in 2008, offering 16 – 19 year olds opportunities to study courses at levels 1-3 in Business, Engineering, Health & Social Care and Sport. These courses will continue to be offered at New Campus Basildon, as well as Childcare, IT, Media and apprenticeships in a range of subjects.

The new development contains innovative vocational learning facilities such as a Sports Laboratory and a specialist Gaming and Media Suite, which guests at the launch had the opportunity to see.

The launch event of this new Seevic College development marks not just the opening of the new campus site, but also the start of a bright academic future for youngsters in and around Basildon.

Church Walk House will be holding an ‘Open House’ every Thursday between 10am – 2pm for anyone who would like to see the new learning spaces on offer in Basildon.
