Students welcome Rowan Tolley to Seevic College
New students on the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma Performing Arts course were given the opportunity to work with renowned Physical Theatre performer, Rowan Tolley, to devise their own piece of physical theatre entitled ‘I breathe out (I breathe in)’.
The intensive physical theatre project required the students to work together as a team in order to understand the protocols and expectations of them whilst on their course.

Intense, demanding and full of energy, the Rowan Tolley method involves risk, skills development, bodies rebounding off bodies and imagination that echoes and resounds around the emotional spectrum. This opened up students’ eyes to new aspects of performing arts, using a range of practical skills including physical theatre, movement, use of voice and mime.
Natalie Doherty, Head of Faculty for Arts and Media, said “The project was very successful and all students enjoyed the experience fully. It is a positive way to start their course as it has given them a realistic view of the industry and set out what expectations staff have of them during their study”.
This experience proved vital for the students to understand the demands of working as a performing arts company, as well as providing them a fast-track opportunity to really become a part of life at Seevic College.
Zoe Eracli, a first year Performing Arts student, said “I really enjoyed last week. I liked experiencing something new and different to what I’ve done before. It also helped us make friends and feel comfortable with each other”.
