Students help the Haiti Earthquake Appeal
Staff and students donate to help good cause
Students raised over £300 for the Help Haiti Earthquake Appeal by running a day of fund-raising events. They covered themselves in blue face paint to dress up as smurfs, ran a cake sale, took charity buckets around the College and busked in the College Restaurant Area.

Student Linda Blacker, 18, from Chelmsford, who helped to organise the event said: “We wanted to do our bit to help the people who are suffering in Haiti. It’s such a massive issue at the moment so everyone has been willing to help out. We have had a great response from staff and students and have collected lots of donations.
“We chose to dress up as smurfs because it’s attention grabbing and different, although without the hats people think we are Avatars!”
Over 20 Performing Arts students could be seen busking in the College restaurant with a keyboard and acoustic guitar, singing songs including; ‘Lean on Me’, ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Fields of Gold’ and ‘Oh Happy Day’. A Level Student Andrew Williams, 17, from Basildon also wowed students with a self-produced rap.
Andrew said: “I wanted to get involved in encouraging people to give what they can to help people who are less fortunate that us. I wrote the rap and produced the backing myself so that it would relate to this appeal.”
