Seevic students skydive for World Challenge

Student before skydive

A group of brave and enthusiastic Seevic students recently took to the sky in order to raise money for World Challenge.

Students prepare for their skydive

The day involved travelling to the airstrip at 5.00am, and waiting until 2.30pm for perfect weather conditions. The students were put through a grueling training session to learn jump positions and what to expect once up in the air. At 3.00pm the plane took off with students Laura Harsent, Ross Hegarty, James Hamilton, Arin Samson and Connor Samson.

The students were exposed to free falling at 10,000ft before the parachute was pulled at 5,000ft.

Laura Harsent, 17, Hockley, raised a total of £300 for her skydive experience, which will help towards raising her goal of £3575 for her World Challenge journey. She said: “It felt like I was hovering on air & I felt alive. The views were amazing. I was shocked that I had done it but I would skydive again any day.”

The students need to raise £3575 each in order to travel to Namibia and Botswana, where they will face a series of mental and physical challenges. It will take them outside of their comfort zones and help them to discover a diversity of environments and cultures. They will take part in a variety of projects including an 8-day community project. They will gain a broader global perspective and a greater respect for the world.

Seevic College wishes the students the best of luck as they continue with their fundraising. The World Challenge students are planning a variety of fundraising activities, and are currently organising a Christmas raffle.
