Professional Player gives tips to SEEVIC Rugby Team
Player shares words of inspiration
Professional Rugby Union Player Kris Chesney recently visited SEEVIC College to give a talk to the rugby team about his successful career and inspire them to continue to achieve their best.
Chesney, one of the most capped players in premiership history, started playing rugby for Barking RFC when he was 18; here he was picked up by a scout at 21 to play for Saracens. He played for Saracens for almost 16 years until last season when he signed for Toulon, alongside teammate Johnny Wilkinson.
He advised the team: “Talent and natural ability gets you so far but the next step to senior and first grade rugby is steep and takes discipline and dedication. There are careers and futures out there for you and small sacrifices will get you there.”
Student Harry Hudson said: "To hear from someone so successful who was picked up at a late age really shows our team that the hard work we put in now will pay off in the near future."
SEEVIC College Sports Coach Mark Williams said:” We feel it is vitally important for our players to receive input from a different voice. To have a professional of Kris Chesney’s caliber to speak to the team on such a personable level is superb, and was a privilege for the lads. Kris is a genuine person, and being from Essex himself was is keen to provide support to our young aspiring players."
