It's a jungle out there!

Twelve students are raising money to take part in a trip of a lifetime to Namibia, on the south-west coast of Africa, with World Challenge.

Students have to raise £3400 each by July 2011, research their chosen destination, Namibia, and plan their itinerary.

World Challenge provides overseas expedition experiences of a lifetime teaching life skills, stretching comfort zones and expanding minds outside the classroom. The students will learn new skills like teamwork, leadership, problem solving and communication.

As part of the expedition the students will get the chance to get used to the different culture and make preparations for the rest of their expedition before they go trekking. They will then take part in a community project for 8 days and then have the chance to relax and sight-see before coming back.

Students have raised money so far by doing a cake sale whilst wearing animal costumes and hosting a chocolate party, amongst other things. They are currently planning more events which are to take place in the new academic year, these include car washing and a pamper evening. Some students are also taking part in a 13,000ft skydive in September and others are doing a half marathon (13.1 miles) in Ipswich this August.

Laura Harsent, 17, from Hockley says ‘I’m doing the tandem skydive in Cambridge. I’ve never done it before, I don’t even like heights!”

Emma Crampton, 17, from Eastwood says “I’ve always wanted to travel and always take the opportunity to do stuff for the community, that’s why I wanted to do World Challenge. I’m looking forward to seeing animals and hopefully to work with children when we are there.”
