SEEVIC College welcomed over 70 year 9 pupils to its Benfleet Campus to enjoy a small taster of what College life could offer them. The 12-13 year old pupils from Castle View, Cornelius Vermuyden and Furtherwick Park schools participated in a number of exciting activities including sports injury massage and dissection of a lamb’s heart.

The event, in association with Aim Higher, aims is to get young people to start thinking about further education after they finish school. Andrew Westoby, Head of Marketing and Communications said: “The Aim Higher events that SEEVIC College has hosted at the Benfleet Campus over the last four years have been well received by pupils, parents and teachers.

“There are many different ways of getting into higher education and the Aim Higher programme at SEEVIC College has allowed pupils to explore new subjects, meet new people and immerse themselves in new experiences. It was terrific to see the pupils becoming enthused by the life long learning opportunities that are open to them. It's never too early to start thinking about your future."

The pupils spent the day at SEEVIC College exploring a range of subjects they could chose to study after school. Activities provided by subject tutors included, Photography and how to use a professional camera, Media and the production of a magazine, Computing and the production of a web page and Investigating Business with the Business Studies faculty.

Senior Tutor, Sue Boyd, who helped organise the event said: “During the programme pupils discovered subjects that they may not currently experience at school. This includes anything from Sports Science to Psychology, from dissecting a heart to massage. The pupils were keen to learn and a pleasure to teach.”
