Student of the year award

SEEVIC student Victoria Haddock has won an ‘Outstanding Student of the Year’ Award, sponsored by Adecco recruitment agency. Victoria has been studying the Advanced Legal Secretarial/Personal Assistant course at the College for the past two years.

Meg Rayner, Branch Manager of Adecco in Southend said: “As we sponsor the ‘Outstanding Student of the Year’ award we have to make the hard decision to chose who wins the award. This year has been the hardest decision so far as the caliber of students has been so high. I would employ all of the students we have seen within an instant; the standard really is that high. I wish all the students every success in the future.”

Eight SEEVIC College students were nominated for the award and each had to go through a series of tough pre-employment assessments with recruitment agency Adecco. They had to complete a skills test, which checked their typing skills and their knowledge of different computer based programmes that are used in the workplace.

The students also had to participate in a grueling Apprentice style interview, where they were assessed on how well they could sell themselves to a potential employer. This formed part of a character-based assessment to help the agency choose the student who they thought had the most employment potential.

Meg Rayner said: “All of the students were extremely good but we chose Victoria because she came across as confident, articulate, organised and enthusiastic. She gave very good answers in the interview and demonstrated a good knowledge of what she wants to do in the future.

“She has realistic career goals and has researched everything she needs to do in order to achieve these goals. I think she will be an asset to any company.”

Victoria Haddock, 18, from Rayleigh said: “I am so pleased to have won this award because I worked so hard throughout the course. I knew I had been nominated but feel so proud to have won. I’m really looking forward to going home and telling my family.”

As well as winning the ‘Outstanding Student of the Year’ Award Victoria was awarded with an LCCI World Silver Medal for outstanding performance in the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Administration Level 2 examination. She was also named as ‘Shorthand Student of the Year’ after passing her 100 words per minute exam and she is now getting ready to sit the 120 words per minute test.

Victoria said: “I have been practicing loads for the 120 words per minute exam because you have to be able to write really fast. I have applied to be a legal secretary when I finish at SEEVIC so hopefully winning these awards will help me to get the job!”
