Student’s work to be printed over 3000 times
Lewis wins pocket diary cover design competition
BTEC Art and Design student Lewis Golland will see his artwork printed 3,300 times after he won a competition at the College to design the cover for the new pocket dairy, which will be used by students in the next academic year starting in September.

Lewis, 17, from Benfleet said: “I entered the competition because I saw the posters up around the College and thought that I had developed some good design skills during my course. I was overwhelmed to find out that I had won and can’t wait to see my design printed thousands of times!
“I got the idea for the cover design from a project we were doing in class, it was based around the idea of pasting over the old with the new and I spent about 3 days creating it. I hope to go to art school in London when I finish at SEEVIC so this will be really good for my portfolio, and will look good on my wall too!”
The competition invited students to design a cover for the new 2009/10 pocket diary that will be used by all SEEVIC College students to record assignment deadlines and other relevant dates.
After many designs were submitted three were short-listed and placed online where students could vote for their favourite. Lewis achieved double success as he submitted two designs into the competition and his second design was chosen as the runner up.
Fiona Hyndman, Director of Learner Performance at SEEVIC College said: “I think Lewis’ design is highly imaginative and it’s excellent that he has been able to put the skills he has learnt in the classroom into practice. This is a fantastic opportunity for Lewis to build on his skills and confidence. I look forward to seeing the finished product and think it’s great that students can be involved in creating products that will be used College wide.”
Lewis was awarded with a framed copy of his design, a Lakeside shopping voucher and an A3 sketchpad for winning the competition.
