Panto of the Opera is a musical triumph!
Students provide a perfect start to the panto season
First year BTEC Performing Arts students have completed their first show since joining the College in September. The show ‘Panto of the Opera’ was loosely based around the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, ‘Phantom of the Opera’ with the addition of a Pantomime Dame and a Pantomime Horse.

Joe Meadows, 16, from Stanford-le-Hope, who played the lead role of the Phantom said: “I auditioned for the part of the Phantom and I was chuffed to find out that I got the lead role in the show. It’s the first show that I have performed in since I started at the College in September so I was quite nervous, especially about the scene where I had to have a sword fight! But the show went really well, and we got a really good response from the audience. I’m looking forward to doing the next show now!”
The show consisted of two acts with 10 main characters and a large chorus who sung songs including The Angel of Music, The Phantom’s Domain and Come and Join The Opera. The identity of the Phantom remains a closely guarded secret, to be revealed only in the closing scenes of the panto.
After completing the audition process and being given their parts the students spent over three weeks rehearsing for the show. They all worked extremely hard to make the show as entertaining and professional as possible, providing a great start to the panto season.
